Meet Crystal Chafin
MS, Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy
I love working with people and seeing the lightbulb switch on.
Witnessing the joy on someone's face when they finally see the positive side of a long-standing struggle is incredibly rewarding. It's a powerful reminder of human resilience. Life's stresses can strain even the strongest bonds. However, sometimes, a shift in perspective or a helping hand, like psychotherapy services, can rekindle the love that seemed lost.
I think the biggest misconception about mental health is that someone is weak or “crazy” if they ask for help.
It is important to know that everyone needs a little help sometimes, and there is nothing wrong with finding a therapy room to iron out the wrinkles! Mental health to me is about finding balance amidst daily stressors, being present with loved ones, and achieving inner peace.
In my therapy room, I create a safe space for open exchanges and ensure everyone feels heard. I guide you through challenges, offering alternative coping mechanisms through therapeutic counseling. We can also explore practices like mindfulness and utilize regular mood checks to track progress.
The willingness to share, even when uncomfortable, is what I value most. Respect for everyone’s thoughts and feelings is paramount.
My therapy approach
You’ve carried so much—thoughts you don’t say out loud, emotions you push aside, moments that shaped you in ways you’re still trying to understand. Therapy is where we bring those pieces together—not to judge, but to explore, heal, and create something new.
My approach is deeply relational, rooted in trust, empathy, and respect. I believe you are the expert of your own story, and I’m here to walk alongside you as you uncover your strength and resilience. Through Narrative Therapy, we’ll look at the stories you’ve been telling yourself and begin to reshape them in ways that feel empowering. With a Collaborative approach, we’ll work together to set goals that make sense for you, creating meaningful change at your own pace.
Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, or life transitions, this is a space where you are heard, valued, and supported—every step of the way.
My mantra is to take it one small step at a time!
The best advice I have ever received is, “It’s better to laugh than to cry!” And sometimes it’s okay to do both. If you’re going to work with me, you should know that, above all else, I am open and honest. And I want you to feel okay in your skin at the end of the day.
I appreciate that it is a difficult decision to choose to make a change and reach out for help. It can be difficult to explain what you have been through without feeling like you are being judged.
The fear of being judged by others is scary and can hold us back from what we truly deserve.
I am not here to judge you. You are a loving parent, friend, spouse, and child, and you truly shine a light on others through your strength. You should know that I have made a few trips around the world and have been through a lot in my personal life. This gives me more experience to draw from and hopefully assists you in figuring out what not to do! Ha-ha.
My goal is to be here to guide you through achieving the goals you have set for yourself.
